Leek Cyclists' Club
Club Notes for the 23rd February 2003
by Kel

Things were going so well, the easy ride last week was well attended with the fit duo of Whizz and Graham Jones, being joined by the not so fit likes of Graham Halden, Kevin Sharrock and yours truly, plus venturing out for his first outing John Chapman. Setting off for Cheshire we were joined as far as Bosley lights by Marc Poyser who’s preparation for the upcoming season should see him at the top of the pile, with the rest of us chasing, although members like Phil Gayes who was taking part in a Congleton ride to the Eureka Café, may not be as far behind as others! Once Marc had shot off in pursuit of PB’s the rest of us meandered down the lanes towards Congleton having arranged to meet Russ Mycock, we traced a path to the outskirts before realizing he wasn’t coming, turned out to be a puncture so close to Russ’s house that he took it as an omen and retired for the day. From this point it was quite easy to use different lanes picking our way across via Joderell Bank emerging at the Whipping Stocks Inn, finally heading to the Wysteria garden centers excellent café. The run back was more straightforward, most members could probably do it on autopilot, still it was nice that the group stayed together proving that it can be done. All told a pleasant mornings activities and I am not saying that because some ended up once again in Den Engel’s for a livener and to discuss plans for the Ironbridge run.
Like I said things were going well, I had even invested in a more up to date bike, this would allow me to use last years summer bike for the 100 mile run (poor excuse) I was quite looking forward to it, till Wednesday when I cricked my neck and ended up having to be ferried home. This meant first missing a quiz night arranged by Rob Sharrock to raise money for the local track league, however I believe it was a well deserved success, our remaining team consisting of Kev and Roe Sharrock plus Glyn and Joan Hewines missed out on a placing. And instead of riding I am stuck writing, I will let you know how the others got on next week. For me I hope to sorted for the Mulled-wine and Muffin ride this Sunday.
