I ended last weeks report saying that due to various members somewhat serious training regimes it looks like a long season, well I have just returned from a club run, actually YT had to cut the run short at Byley after the most upto date (only upto date) component on my trusty Dawes failed leaving me with no freewheeling option! This meant leaving the largest number of riders this year, with even Leek Cycle Centre’s proprietor Gary Thomas putting in an appearance, continuing on to Malkins Bank. If truth be known I was starting to feel somewhat under-prepared after talks of folk doing 300 miles over the last two weeks, whilst Mr. Cooper sounded like he had done getting on for that kind of distance last week, however he is thinking of doing the Paris – Brest  Audax. For those with limited daylight available it would appear that turbo training is the weapon of choice for this season’s buildup. And enquires on whether the handbooks are in yet, only re-enforce the feeling that competition will be a bit intense. However attack from one quarter has ceased, our man up in Yorkshire Ian Peacock who went home with a van load of trophies is going to join a more local club, Ian will remain a second claim member, donating a full membership contribution to the club. Opening wide this years championship, although I know most would have liked the opportunity to lift the awards from Ian through racing.

Talking of Championships, if the handbook has arrived date setting for this years fixtures will be one of the main topics at next weeks club meeting on the 3rd of February at Den Engel’s kicking off at around 8pm. Other topics will be ordering of new club kit, and ideas for social plans for 2003. It will also be a good opportunity for paying club subs.

Back to current plans and this Sundays ride is the Lyme 45 reliability as yet we don’t have a start time but hopefully by the time you read this Marc should have the information to hand. The following week Lyme are also running a 75 in addition to the Langollen ride. Giving a possibility to build up in the traditional way of 45,75 & 100, by taking in the Congleton ride on the 16th.

Must dash I have to hit the Dawes and get her working for Sunday.
